Biography

Liu Xiaopeng, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Urology and Oncology, was born in northeast of Hubei Province in China and graduated with a bachelor degree from Medical School of Southeast University(Nanjin Railway Medical College), Master degree for Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, and Medical Doctor degree from Sun Yat-sun University. He has served as a residency of urologist since 2000, which started in xiangyang hospital and become a specialist of urology from 2011 in the third affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sun University. He also completed a Chinese Urological Association (CUA) Foundation Fellowship.

Dr. Liu has an active clinical practice in Urologic Oncology, Urinary stone, Benign Prostatic, Urinary continence disease and sexual dysfunction. His clinical areas of expertise include the surgical treatment of genitourinary cancer, prostate, bladder, and penile cancer. His main areas of expertise include radical surgical procedures for invasive bladder cancer, minimal invasive surgery of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, prostate cancer, microsurgery of varicocelectomy and reconstructive surgery of the urinary tract following radical cystectomy or pelvic exenteration. He has expertise in open, endoscopic, laparoscopic and micro-surgery and he is equipped to individualize treatment options for patients with a wide range of genitourinary malignancies and benign disease. His other areas of focus include surgical management of erectile dysfunction (inflatable penile prosthesis) and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (Transurethral resection of Prostatectomy and open simple prostatectomy) and Urinary incontinence.

Dr. Liu has received recognition for his research involving the outcome of surgery for pelvic malignancies. He is interested in improving quality of life outcomes (urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction) following pelvic surgery for prostate and bladder cancer.  His laboratory currently investigates novel molecular pathways that are involved in post-radical prostatectomy erectile dysfunction and identification of novel biomarkers for the early diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer.
