Founded in 1971, at present, it is currently a key clinical specialty in Guangdong Province integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. III. Clinical expertise
The medical business of the department covers three fields: clinical anesthesia, treatment of critically ill patients, and treatment of acute and chronic pain, and comprehensively carries out all kinds of routine surgical anesthesia. Nearly 30,000 anesthesia and nearly 60,000 anesthesia outside the operating room are completed every year. The department also opened anesthesia and pain clinics at the same time, and the annual outpatient volume exceeded 7,000 people. In 2011, it won the first batch of "Key Clinical specialty in Guangdong Province". Liver transplantation anesthesia is the clinical specialty of the department, and the number of anesthesia, clinical and basic research of anesthesia all rank among the forefront in China. The department is a member unit and training base of the National Geriatric Anesthesiology Alliance, especially the comprehensive treatment ability of patients with super old age (over 85 years old) is outstanding. The department is the comfortable medical training base of Chinese Medical Doctor Association. Every year, nearly 50,000 painless series anesthesia is completed, including painless colonoscopy, painless abortion and painless delivery, no convulsive electroshock treatment anesthesia, etc. The comfortable painless proportion is more than 91%, ranking among the top in the province. Accelerated Rehabilitation Surgery (enhanced recovery after surgery,ERAS) treatment with anesthesia as the core team has achieved remarkable results. At present, the number of more than 12 ERAS-MDT diagnosis and treatment teams, ranking at the top in the province. A well-established ERAS management protocol was formed, serving nearly 30,000 ER AS patients. In addition, robot surgical anesthesia, heart and large vascular surgical anesthesia, critically ill patients anesthesia, organ transplantation anesthesia are also the characteristics of the department anesthesia.

The discipline is the master's training site and post-doctoral mobile station of Sun Yat-sen University, and the national key professional base of standardized training of resident doctors. It has trained more than 40 doctoral students, more than 100 master's students and more than 80 doctoral students. Based on the clinical skills training, the department developed the anesthesiology public clinical skills training platform (hospital-level training platform) and the comprehensive ability training courses based on high-end simulation training. The students won the special prize of the National Clinical Skills Competition for four times.
