Cardiothoracic surgery is a clinical department which integrates medical treatment, scientific research and teaching. It consists of 2 sub-specialties of cardiovascular surgery and thoracic surgery. There are comfortable surroundings and well-equipments in the department. The department currently has 50 beds, and has an independent cardiac surgery intensive care unit.

Medical specialty of cardiovascular surgery: 1. Perform Various types of heart valve forming and replacement surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, Cardiac tumor resection, Radiofrequency Ablation Therapy for atrial fibrillation, ect. 2. Minimally invasive cardiac surgery: mitral and tricuspid valve forming and replacement surgery, repair of atrial septal defect by video-assisted thoracoscopic; closed-chest transthoracic closure to therapy ventricular and atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus. 3. Especially be good at surgical and hybridization of aortic disease (Marfan syndrome, aortic dissection and aortic aneurysm).

Thoracic surgery also become the first medical unit in domestic hospital, which is able to perform successfully endoscopic surgery to therapy various common diseases of thoracic surgery, for instance lung cancer, esophageal cancer, pleural disease, mediastinal tumor, chest trauma hemopneumothorax, rib fracture and complex difficult mediastinal tumor.
